Het Australische TV programma A Current Affair brengt vandaag het verhaal van twee Zuid-Afrikaanse meisjes die op een eerdere vlucht in de cockpit waren bij de First Officer van de verdwenen Boeing.
Bij het inchecken voor een vlucht van Phuket (Thailand) naar Kuala Lumpur in december 2011 hadden ze aanspraak van de First Officer, Fariq Abdul Hamid. Eenmaal op hun plaatsen in het toestel kwam een flight attendant naar hen toe en nodigde ze uit in de cockpit. Ze zijn daar de hele vlucht geweest, inclusief take-off en landing. Dit is tegen het beleid van Malaysia Airlines.
In een interview zegt een van de meiden, Ms Roos, dat de piloten erg aardig waren en zij zich op haar gemak voelde. De piloten hebben de meiden uitgenodigd een nacht met ze te gaan stappen in Maleisië.
Er zijn foto’s gemaakt in de cockpit en daarbuiten en de piloten zouden sigaretten gerookt hebben.

In een persbericht zegt Malaysia Airlines het volgende:
Malaysia Airlines has become aware of the allegations being made against First Officer, Fariq Ab Hamid which we take very seriously. We are shocked by these allegations.
We have not been able to confirm the validity of the pictures and videos of the alleged incident. As you are aware, we are in the midst of a crisis, and we do not want our attention to be diverted.
We also urge the media and general public to respect the privacy of the families of our colleagues and passengers. It has been a difficult time for them.
The welfare of both the crew and passenger’s families remain our focus. At the same time, the security and safety of our passengers is of the utmost importance to us.
