Vandaag is de laatste route overgedragen aan Germanwings, het gaat om Dusseldorf-Basel. Daarmee zijn alle 115 routes die naar Germanwings moesten overgezet. Het project is binnen de gestelde tijd afgerond.

Het nieuwe Germanwings is gepresenteerd in december 2012 en gelanceerd op 1 juli 2013. Germanwings moest alle Europese routes van Lufthansa overnomen, behalve die van de hubs van Munchen en Frankfurt. De meeste van de 115 routes gaan vanaf Düsseldorf Airport. Air France gaat een vergelijkbare operatie uitvoeren: alle point-to-point vluchten van Air France binnen Europa gaan naar Hop!. Alleen de vluchten vanaf Charles de Gaulle en enkele andere routes blijven door Air France gedaan worden.
Europa
Europese vluchten zijn in toenemende mate een probleem voor de traditionele maatschappijen. Ze hebben veel concurrentie van de budget carriers. Een kracht voor bijvoorbeeld Air France, maar ook KLM zijn de overstappers van long-hauw bestemmingen. Die stappen op hub-luchthavens over op Europese vluchten om op hun eindbestemming te komen. Daarom gaan deze niet naar prijsvecht-dochters van de flag-carriers.
Lufthansa
Air France moet nog beginnen, maar Lufthansa heeft de operatie dus vandaag afgerond.
